Marinated Shish Tawook in the Oven
Shish Tawook is a beloved Middle Eastern dish that features marinated chicken skewers that are grilled or roasted to perfection. This oven-baked version is not only easy to prepare but also packed with flavor, making it a great choice for a weeknight dinner or a weekend gathering.
Ingredients
- 500 grams of boneless chicken breast, cut into cubes
- 3 tablespoons of yogurt
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon of paprika
- 1 teaspoon of cumin
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Wooden or metal skewers
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine yogurt, olive oil, minced garlic, lemon juice, paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper.
- Add the chicken pieces to the bowl and mix thoroughly to ensure that the chicken is well-coated with the marinade.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight for maximum flavor.
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
- While the oven is heating, soak wooden skewers in water for about 30 minutes, if using them.
- Thread the marinated chicken onto the skewers, leaving a little space between each piece for even cooking.
- Place the skewers on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
- Bake the chicken in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, turning halfway through, until the chicken is cooked through and slightly golden on the outside.
- Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Shish Tawook is typically served with a side of garlic tahini, alongside warm pita bread and a fresh salad. You can also serve it with rice or grilled vegetables for a complete meal.
