Loukoum, also known as “Luqaimat,” is a traditional Arabic dessert that is popular for its sweet taste and crispy on the outside, soft on the inside texture. Drizzled with rich date syrup, it offers a delightful combination of flavors that is hard to resist.
Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup water
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon instant yeast
½ teaspoon salt
Oil, for frying
Date syrup, for drizzling
Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt.
Gradually add warm water to the dry ingredients, mixing until a smooth batter forms.
Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and let the batter rise for about 30 minutes, or until it doubles in size.
In a deep frying pan, heat the oil over medium heat.
Once the oil is hot, drop spoonfuls of the batter into the oil and fry until they are golden brown. (Approximately 2-3 minutes on each side.)
Remove the fried loukoum and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
Drizzle with date syrup and sprinkle with sesame seeds, if desired. Serve warm.
