Experience the rich, flaky goodness of chocolate croissants, the perfect treat to savor during Ramadan. This delightful pastry combines buttery layers with a luscious filling of chocolate, bringing joy to your festive table.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup milk, warm
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled
- 1 cup dark chocolate, chopped
- 1 egg, for egg wash
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let it rest for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and knead until a soft dough forms.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 2 hours.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a rectangle. Place the chilled butter in the center and fold the dough over to cover it completely.
- Roll out the dough again into a larger rectangle and fold it into thirds, like a letter. Wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate for another hour.
- Repeat the rolling and folding process two more times to create flaky layers.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out the dough one last time and cut it into triangles.
- Place a piece of chocolate at the wide end of each triangle, then roll it up towards the tip to form the croissant shape.
- Place the croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Let them cool before serving.
