Italian Lasagna with Mozzarella
Italian lasagna with mozzarella is a classic dish that is loved for its rich flavors and comforting layers. This recipe is perfect for family gatherings or special occasions.
Ingredients
- 12 lasagna noodles
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped onion until soft. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- Add the ground beef or sausage to the skillet. Cook until browned and drain excess fat.
- Stir in the marinara sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Allow the sauce to simmer for about 10 minutes.
- Cook the lasagna noodles according to package directions, then drain and rinse with cold water.
- In a baking dish, spread a layer of the meat sauce on the bottom. Place three lasagna noodles over the sauce, then layer with ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, and another layer of sauce.
- Repeat the layers, finishing with a layer of meat sauce topped with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let the lasagna cool for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
