How to Make Aish Al-Saraya the Traditional Way
Aish Al-Saraya is a beloved Middle Eastern dessert known for its delightful combination of bread, cream, and syrup. This traditional dish is often served during special occasions and is a true crowd-pleaser.
Ingredients
- 300g of Arabic bread or khubz
- 1 liter of milk
- 200g of sugar
- 2 cups of cream
- 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon of rose water (optional)
- Pistachios or almonds for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Tear the Arabic bread into small pieces and place them in a baking dish.
- In a saucepan, combine the milk and sugar, and heat until the sugar dissolves.
- In a separate bowl, mix the cornstarch with a little bit of milk to create a slurry.
- Gradually add the slurry to the saucepan, stirring constantly until it thickens.
- Remove from heat, then mix in the cream, vanilla extract, and rose water if using.
- Pour the thickened milk mixture over the torn bread pieces in the baking dish, ensuring they’re well soaked.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
- Once ready, let it cool before serving. Garnish with crushed pistachios or almonds.
