Kulijaa with Date Syrup
Kulijaa is a traditional sweet pastry that combines the rich flavors of date syrup with a soft, doughy texture. This delightful treat is often enjoyed during special occasions and gatherings.
Ingredients
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 cup of date syrup
- 1 tablespoon of yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 cup of warm water
- 1/4 cup of vegetable oil
- 1/4 teaspoon of cardamom powder (optional)
- Sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and set it aside for about 10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and cardamom powder.
- Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add the yeast mixture, date syrup, and vegetable oil.
- Knead the mixture thoroughly until you achieve a smooth dough. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Once the dough has risen, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Punch down the dough to remove air bubbles and shape it into small rounds or desired shapes.
- Place the shaped dough pieces on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and let them rest for another 15 minutes.
- Brush the tops with additional date syrup and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving, and enjoy your Kulijaa with warm drinks or tea!
